Unexpected Birds

And sometimes you are walking down a familiar path on a spring morning, and there are questions raging, questions that seem to demand immediate answers. What to do with this precious gift of a life? Where to go? What to say next? Which choice to make or not make? Which voice to listen to? How to make everything okay again? How to hold it all together? How to avoid falling apart?

And suddenly the questions cannot hold, they shatter into a million silences, because a tiny bird has perched itself on the path in front of you, perched in the here and now, not in the there and then in which you are seeking your answers. Your eyes meet hers, and you know that everything is okay with the universe. Questions will get answered, or not, and solutions will appear or not appear at the perfect time, because you will make yourself available to them, as you are available now to this tiny and unexpected bird.

Perhaps today is not a day for answers and unshakeable certainties, it is a day for birdsong and staying close to questions as they walk with you down familiar paths on spring mornings.

"I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible..."

Reason for Hope: A Spiritual Journey

Some of Jane Goodall's words from her book "Reason for Hope: A Spiritual Journey"

"Even if there was no God, even if human beings had no soul, it would still be true that evolution had created a remarkable animal — the human animal — during its millions of years of labor. So very like our closest biological relatives, the chimpanzees, yet so different. For our study of the chimpanzees had helped to pinpoint not only the similarities between them and us, but also those ways in which we are most different. Admittedly, we are not the only beings with personalities, reasoning powers, altruism, and emotions like joy and sorrow; nor are we the only beings capable of mental as well as physical suffering. But our intellect has grown mighty in complexity since the first true men branched off from the ape-man stock some two million years ago. And we, and only we, have developed a sophisticated spoken language. For the first time in evolution, a species evolved that was able to teach its young about objects and events not present, to pass on wisdom gleaned from the successes — and the mistakes — of the past, to make plans for the distant future, to discuss ideas so that they could grow, sometimes out of all recognition, through the combined wisdom of the group.

With language we can ask, as can no other living beings, those questions about who we are and why we are here. And this highly developed intellect means, surely, that we have a responsibility toward the other life-forms of our planet whose continued existence is threatened by the thoughtless behavior of our own human species — quite regardless of whether or not we believe in God. Indeed, those who acknowledge no God, but are convinced that we are in this world as an evolutionary accident, may be more active in environmental responsibility — for if there is no God, then, obviously, it is entirely up to us to put things right. On the other hand, I have encountered a number of people with a strong faith in God who shrug off their own human responsibilities, believing that everything is safely “in God’s hands.” I was brought up to believe that “God helps those who help themselves.” We should all take responsibility, all play our part in helping to clean up and heal the planet that, in so many ways, we have desecrated."

Skinny Peanut Butter Swirl Brownies

Got the recipe from Echa's Pinterest. You can see the recipe from Sallys Baking Addiction blog. Super fudgy brownies made without white flour, butter or oil!

I'll copy paste it for you...

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup (185 grams) creamy peanut butter (do not use natural, runny peanut butter or powdered "peanut butter")
  • 6 oz. low fat or fat free vanilla greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) skim milk (or almond milk)
  • 1 large egg (or 2 egg whites)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup (200 grams) granulated sugar  (see note above in post about substitutions)
  • 1/2 cup (64 grams) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup (40 grams) old-fashioned rolled oats

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Spray a 8×8 inch pan with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. Place all of the ingredients except for the peanut butter into a blender or food processor. (Yes, a blender!) For easier blending, place the liquid ingredients into the blender first. Blend until mix is smooth and oats are ground up. You will have to stop the blender and scrape down the sides a few times.
  3. Pour batter into prepared baking dish. Batter will be thin. Microwave peanut butter for about 30 seconds. Drop melted peanut butter by spoonfuls onto the batter, swirling gently with a knife to create a marbled effect. (Try not to overmix!)
  4. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from the sides of the pan. Brownies will be extra fudgy, so be sure to wait until COMPLETELY cooled - I stuck mine in the refrigerator for 2 hours, which allowed them to be cut very easily. Cut into squares and enjoy!

It takes a pencil to draw, a book to open up their imagination & a very small contribution to make a big difference :)

Dear all,

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Dear all,

It has been among my dreams to help indonesian children. Fortunately my good friends, Nila and Eva, asked me to join them to share and spend some time with children from Taman Bacaan Pelangi (Rainbow Reading Gardens) in remote areas of Eastern Indonesia, a place I wanted to visit.

Taman Bacaan Pelangi is non-profit organization which set up community libraries for children living in remote areas in the eastern part of Indonesia. Its aim is to nurture the children's interest in reading and increase their access to quality books. The library will enable the children in the most remote areas access to good quality books. Established in December 5, 2009 by Nila Tanzil, Taman Bacaan Pelangi is now available in 26 villages spreadout in 11  islands in East Indonesia, among them: Flores, Timor, Lombok, Sumbawa, Sulawesi and the Isles of Banda in Maluku.

This month, I will donate my earnings from my kids yoga class to the children in East Indonesia. Also from my art and craft clas. Income received from every child taking 1 yoga class will cover the fee of 10 children in the remote areas (1 village may have up to 100 children) of eastern Indonesia to participate in a Creative Workshop at Taman Bacaan Pelangi.

It takes a pencil to draw, a book to open up their imagination,  and a very small contribution to make a big difference.

So come join my KidsYoga class kiddos or Kutakatik Art Craft Class . For more info and for those who are interested in donating, kindly email to kyra.pradiono@gmail.com

Thank you :))

ps: For more information on Taman Bacaan Pelangi, please go to www.tamanbacaanpelangi.com, www.facebook.com/pelangibook, or Twitter @pelangibook

...

Sisa-sisamu.

Biar. Cukup sudah."

Simple hearty breakfast

Made this simple hearty breakfast. Just toast 1 whole wheat bread. After that, cut a heart shape in the middle of the bread with a knife. Or you can use cookie cutter if you want to. Make lots of shapes, I bet the kids would love this! Then I put some butter on the pan, then put the bread, and then put the egg into the heart shape. Sprinkle some herbs on top, and just wait until it's cook (to taste). Easy right?

Zucchini pasta with mushroom sauce

Yes, still in the mood for some zucchini pasta! This time I made mushroom sauce. You need zucchini, mushrooms, onion, butter, skim milk, flour, salt, pepper, parmesan and herbs (all to taste).

I used the mandolin to slice the zucchini, it's up to you if you want to peel the skin or not. And it's up to you if you want to have it raw or you can cook it. You can put into the pan on the stove over medium heat, with butter (or olive oil), cook the zucchini strands with garlic, stirring every minute or so, until soft, about 3-5 minutes (drain off liquids if necessary). Remove to a bowl.

Then with the same pan, mix the mushroom slices with onion, salt and pepper.
On the other pan, put skim milk, flour and a bit of butter, salt and pepper. Stir it until it's a bit thick.

After that, just put the mushroom mixture into the cream sauce. Just mix and cook it together.
Then just put the mushroom cream sauce on top of the zucchini (in the bowl) and just mix it with oregano, thyme and parmesan.

Easy right? :))
