5 useful paint and playdough recipes :)

Tubby Time Paint

This paint works well on walls, arms and rubber duckies. Make blue, red and yellow to ensure a lot of color mixing success.

Ingredients : - 1/3 liquid baby soap
                     - 1 ½ tablespoon cornstarch (cornflour).
                     - food coloring

Directions :
1. Blend the cornstarch into the liquid baby soap.
2. Divide the mixture into non-breakable cups or bowls (such as clean yoghurt cup).
3. Add desired amount of food coloring and mix thoroughly.

Homemade Face Paint

Ingredients : - 6 teaspoon of cornstarch (cornflour)
                     - 3 teaspoon of cold cream
                     - 3 teaspoon of water
                     - food coloring

Directions :
1. Mix cornstarch, cold cream and water in one bowl.
2. Add desired amount of food coloring.
3. Mix thoroughly and then divide into small containers.
4. Apply with a paintbrush or cotton swab.

Cornstarch Finger Paint

Ingredients : - 3 cups water
                     - extra water
                     - 1 cup cornstarch
                     - food coloring

Directions :
1. In a saucepan, bring the water to boil.
2. Dissolve cornstarch in a separate bowl, with the extra water (so that it's tick but ready to be poured).
3. Remove boiling water from heat and add cornstarch mixture.
4. Pour mixture out onto a clean, smooth surface and knead until it forms a soft pliable dough.
5. Return to heat, stirring constantly. Boil until the mixture is clear and thick (1 minute). Remove from heat.
6. As the mixture is cooling, divide into seperate bowls and add food coloring. Children like to help to mix in the coloring. It is lovely to use it when it's still warm.

Edible Instant Potato Dough

Ingredients : - 1 cup boling water
                     - 1 ½ cup instant mashed potato
                     - food coloring

 Directions :
1. Put istant potato in a mixing bowl.
2. Pour boiling water into bowl and stir well.
3. Add food coloring if desired.
4. Pour mixture out onto a clean, smooth surface and knead until it forms a soft pliable dough.

Add more potatoes or water to get desired consistency.

Homade Playdough

Ingredients : - 3 cups of boiling water
                     - 3 cups flour
                     - 1 1/2 cup salt
                     - 4 tablespoon vegetable oil
                     - 4 tablespoon cream of tartar
                     - food coloring

Directions :
Mix all ingredients except for the flour in a large bowl. Once well mixed, add flour. Stir continously until the dough mix leaves the sides of the bowl. When well blended, remove from bowl and knead on floured board. Careful, the dough will be hot, especially in the centre. At first it will seem undercooked, but as you knead and sprinkle with flour, you will find you have made a nice, soft playdough. Store in an airtight container. I never refrigerate my dough as putting it in the fridge makes it sweaty and it goes sticky.

Just try it, I got these recipes from Sixty Second Parent . I add some pics that I've took :)

Stop #MonsterKresek mari #DietKantongPlastik

(berbagai sumber)

The Imaginary World :)

I love packagings and I collect them. I collect cereal boxes (old and new) and these are some Pringles' cans and juice boxes that I've been collecting for several years :)

I love this site . You can call it The Imaginary World or Tick Toy Toys.  It's all about old packagings and commercials. These are some pics from that site, I feel like collecting them all :p

And these are from one of my favorite book Krazy Kids Food. I bought it several years ago. It's all about old packagings for kids from toys, soaps, ceral boxes and more.

Enjoy and check the the website! :)

18 Practical Tips for Living the Golden Rule

I've been reading this Zen Habits blog. And this one I want to share it with you.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at some practical tips for living the Golden Rule in your daily life:

1. Practice empathy. Make it a habit to try to place yourself in the shoes of another person. Any person. Loved ones, co-workers, people you meet on the street. Really try to understand, to the extent that you can, what it is like to be them, what they are going through, and why they do what they do.

2. Practice compassion. Once you can understand another person, and feel what they’re going through, learn to want to end their suffering. And when you can, take even a small action to somehow ease their suffering in some way.

3. How would you want to be treated? The Golden Rule doesn’t really mean that you should treat someone else exactly as you’d want them to treat you … it means that you should try to imagine how they want to be treated, and do that. So when you put yourself in their shoes, ask yourself how you think they want to be treated. Ask yourself how you would want to be treated if you were in their situation. John F. Kennedy did that during the controversial days of de-segregation in the 1960s, asking white Americans to imagine being looked down upon and treated badly based only on the color of their skin. He asked them to imagine how they would want to be treated if they were in that situation, and act accordingly towards the blacks.

4. Be friendly. When in doubt, follow this tip. It’s usually safe to be friendly towards others. Of course, there are times when others just don’t want someone acting friendly towards them, and you should be sensitive to that. You should also be friendly within the bounds of appropriateness. But who doesn’t like to feel welcome and wanted?

5. Be helpful. This is probably one of the weaknesses of our society. Sure, there are many people who go out of their way to be helpful, and I applaud them. But in general there is a tendency to keep to yourself, and to ignore the problems of others. Don’t be blind to the needs and troubles of others. Look to help even before you’re asked.

6. Be courteous in traffic. Another weakness of our society. There are few times when we are as selfish as when we’re driving. We don’t want to give up the right of way, we cut people off, we honk and curse. Perhaps it’s the isolation of the automobile. We certainly don’t act that rude in person, most of the time. So try to be courteous in traffic.

7. Listen to others. Another weakness: we all want to talk, but very few of us want to listen. And yet, we all want to be listened to. So take the time to actually listen to another person, rather than just wait your turn to talk. It’ll also go a long way to helping you understand others.

8. Overcome prejudice. We all have our prejudices, whether it’s based on skin color, attractiveness, height, age, gender … it’s human nature, I guess. But try to see each person as an individual human being, with different backgrounds and needs and dreams. And try to see the commonalities between you and that person, despite your differences.

9. Stop criticism. We all have a tendency to criticize others, whether it’s people we know or people we see on television. However, ask yourself if you would like to be criticized in that person’s situation. The answer is almost always “no”. So hold back your criticism, and instead learn to interact with others in a positive way.

10. Don’t control others. It’s also rare that people want to be controlled. Trust me. So don’t do it. This is a difficult thing, especially if we are conditioned to control people. But when you get the urge to control, put yourself in that person’s shoes. You would want freedom and autonomy and trust, wouldn’t you? Give that to others then.

11. Be a child. The urge to control and criticize is especially strong when we are adults dealing with children. In some cases, it’s necessary, of course: you don’t want the child to hurt himself, for example. But in most cases, it’s not. Put yourself in the shoes of that child. Remember what it was like to be a child, and to be criticized and controlled. You probably didn’t like it. How would you want to be treated if you were that child?

12. Send yourself a reminder. Email yourself a daily reminder (use Google Calendar or memotome.com, for example) to live your life by the Golden Rule, so you don’t forget.

13. Tie a string to your finger. Or give yourself some other reminder throughout the day so that you don’t forget to follow the Golden Rule in all interactions with others. Perhaps a fake golden ring on your keychain? A tattoo? :)

14. Post it on your wall or make it your home page. The Golden Rule makes a great mantra, and a great poster.

15. Rise above retaliation. We have a tendency to strike back when we’re treated badly. This is natural. Resist that urge. The Golden Rule isn’t about retaliation. It’s about treating others well, despite how they treat you. Does that mean you should be a doormat? No … you have to assert your rights, of course, but you can do so in a way where you still treat others well and don’t strike back just because they treated you badly first. Remember Jesus’ wise (but difficult to follow) advice: turn the other cheek.

16. Be the change. Gandhi famously told us to be the change we want to see in the world. Well, we often think of that quote as applying to grand changes, such as poverty and racism and violence. Well, sure, it does apply to those things … but it also applies on a much smaller scale: to all the small interactions between people. Do you want people to treat each other with more compassion and kindness? Then let it start with you. Even if the world doesn’t change, at least you have.

17. Notice how it makes you feel. Notice how your actions affect others, especially when you start to treat them with kindness, compassion, respect, trust, love. But also notice the change in yourself. Do you feel better about yourself? Happier? More secure? More willing to trust others, now that you trust yourself? These changes come slowly and in small increments, but if you pay attention, you’ll see them.

18. Say a prayer. There is a prayer on the Golden Rule, attributed to Eusebius of Caesarea, that would be worth saying once a day. It includes the following lines, among others:
“May I gain no victory that harms me or my opponent.
May I reconcile friends who are mad at each other.
May I, insofar as I can, give all necessary help to my friends and to all who are in need.
May I never fail a friend in trouble."

    What do you think? :)
The article is from this part of Zen Habits.

    I ♥ animals (1)

I love animals :) I  love to see and take pics of animals too. I always tell my students to care about animals, even the smallest one like ants. If they tried to stepped on it, I just told them, "think...if you're in that ant's position, you're walking around and somebody just stepped on you from above, how does it feel?" Animals have feelings too! :D

One of my fave quote from Mohandas Gandhi : "The greatness of a nation can be judge by the way its animals are treated."

I got this cute "Pup Pup and Away" pic from Cute Overload site .

    Our Haunted House :)

I love paper cut art...that's why i love cutting and pasting. This time we asked the children to make their own silhouette haunted house. We provided the pics, the kids cut it and arranged the silhouette.

This one is mine. I made this first so the kids can have ideas what to make with their silhouettes.

These are Jason's. It's funny and interesting because he made these two with the same patterns, same placement and same shreddings. And he made one in the morning and the other one at noon. Interesting right? :)

And these are some of the haunted houses the kids have made. It's interesting to see the differences in each art work :)

    Simple Comic Strip

A couple of days ago, I asked some of my students (it's part of the learning material too), to make a simple comic strip. Look at this :)

This one is Adriana's, a 5 y.o girl....she said that in the first box, she was riding her scooter in the morning...and then the second box, she said after she rides her scooter, she flew away with her unicorn...and then the third box....she said she slept with mommy at night :)

This one is Haila's...the first box she said, she was sleeping and then she wakes up....the second box, she was having breakfast....the third box, she was taking a shower :)

It's cute how they drescibed these simple pics that they've drawn by themself.

    Danny & Annie

Thank's to Echa and her blog Et voila, who found this simple yet beautiful movie :)
Ps: yes cha...my eyes gets teary :)

Danny Perasa and his wife, Annie, came to StoryCorps to recount their twenty-seven-year romance. As they remember their life together from their first date to Danny’s final days with terminal cancer, these remarkable Brooklynites personify the eloquence, grace, and poetry that can be found in the voices of everyday people when we take the time to listen.

    i love words (3) :)

"Recognizing and respecting differences in others, and treating everyone like you want them to treat you, will help make our world a better place for everyone. Care... be your best. You don't have to be handicapped to be different. Everyone is different!"
Kimputer, Kim Peek, inspiration for Rain Main.

"It needs to be understood that dyslexia is a "learning difference"; just as we all look different, we think and learn differently, too."
    - Stacey Poulos -

"Nobody's good in everything. Advantages and disadvantages come in many forms."
    - Charles Schwab -

"Autism itself is not the enemy... the barriers to development that are included with autism are the enemy. The retardation that springs from a lack of development is the enemy. The sensory problems that are often themselves the barriers are the enemy. These things are not part of who the child is... they are barriers to who the child is meant to be, according to the developmental blueprint. Work with the child's strengths to overcome the weaknesses, and work within the autism, not against it, to overcome the developmental barriers."
    - Frank Klein, autistic -

"All kids are gifted. Some just open their packages earlier than others."
    - Michael Carr-

"We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today."
    -Stacia Tauscher-

"While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about."
    -Angela Schwindt-

"You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance."
    - Franklin P. Jones-

"Too often we give our children answers to remember rather than problems to solve."
    -Roger Lewin-

"Kids: they dance before they learn there is anything that isn't music."
    -William Stafford-

"A child seldom needs a good talking to as a good listening to."
    -Robert Brault-

"There are no seven wonders of the world in the eyes of a child. There are seven million."
    -Walt Streightiff-

These words never fails me :)

Have a happy cuppycake day my honeybunch :)

"You're my honeybunch, sugarplum pumpy-umpy-umpkin, you're my sweetie pie...
You're my cuppycake, gumdrop snoogums-boogums, you're the apple of my eye...
And I love you so and I want you to know that I'll always be right here...
And I love to sing sweet songs to you because you are so dear..."

    "cuppycake" or "you're my honeybunch"

Enjoy the ride to Semarang :)

I just had a quick getaway for the weekend to Semarang. I took the train to go there, it took me 6 hours, with beautiful and interesting views. Here are some of the pics I took.

Some of the view from the train, green rice fields :)

Here are some of the pics from Semarang, Kota Lama Semarang. Old town of Semarang.

Here's some temple from Kawasan Pecinan or the Chinatown.

We took a ride in the city with becak :) A traditional public transportation.

And then we went to Ungaran, to see Candi Gedong Songo, this is one of them.

This is the place where we're staying in Semarang, a village called Gondorio. It's so nice to stay over there, because I just love the feel of natural surrounding. I love to spend times just to walk around the rice fields and sits on the bench just to enjoy the view and chit chat :)

And this is one of my favorite food (or u can say it's a snack) from Semarang, Lumpia Semarang (or spring roll).

I still have more pics here on my facebook if you want to see more :)
