DIY Pop Up Cards

I was thinking of making some DIY pop up card for my good friend's birthday. I love to make something with paper....and do some cutting and pasting with paper too...like this one and this one and the bear with red nose :) This time I wanted to make it a bit simple.

You just need colorfull paper, glue, double tape, small scissors, cutter and marker.

Start with a simple card and fold it in half. Then cut parallel lines (in pairs of the same length) into the middle fold as shown in the picture. The cuts should be max half the length of the card (otherwise they'll stand out when you close it). Push the flaps forward until your card looks like in the bottom picture.

Now start crafting the bits and pieces to display in your card. I made some balloons and tree. Stick these with paper glue or double tape onto the front (not top) part of the folded out flaps. Now when you close your card, it'll look like in the bottom left picture. Just take a 2nd card and glue it on to cover the outside.

...onto the flaps and voila...you're done :)

Mine (this one) was not finished yet when I took this pic. But now, on the other front part of the folded out flaps, I wrote my good friend's name on the other tree. I forgot to take picture of this card that's already finished. I already gave the card :p

You can do it with your kids too, of course they'll do the drawing and you'll do the cutting.
Make any cards for any occasion, I just love simple cards with simple words :)

I got the inspiration from Jordan Ferney's blog.

Matah Ati

Matah Ati is based on a true story, from one of Indonesia's epic story, takes audiences on an epic journey back in time to 17th century of Java, The Javanese palace of Mangkunegaran. It is a traditional dance opera performance, Javanese song and music as expressed by a Surakarta-Mangkunegara Classical Javanese dance combined with contemporary adaptation and spectacular art direction.

I was amazed by Rambat Yulianingsih's voice and the way she danced was amazing. She was Rubiah in Matah Ati, one of the main character. I wish I could dance like her. Makes me want to learn Javanese dance now :)
The opening act, "dolanan" act, "perang gagal" act, "pecut besar" act, "three girls seducing Raden Mas Said" act, "tari bedaya" act...those were my favorite parts, I got goosebumps. But overall still it was an amazing performance.

All these pics are from google pics and the guide book of Matah Ati :)

As for this one...from my bb...after the show finished :)

Dua kucing, anak anjing dan si ubur2 :)

My new totebag is here...wooohooo! The title is "cerita tentang 2 kucing, anak anjing dan si ubur-ubur"...that's in Indonesian. In english it's "a story about two cats, puppy and jellyfish." Why animals again? because I just love animals, as simple as that :)

This is "Dua Kucing" (two cats)

Both sides with the same illustration. The material is a bit different with the other totebag...still canvas, but this one is the only one with a thicker canvas (because I want to try something new, hopefully this will work hehe). It cost Rp. 70.000,-

This one is "Anak anjing dan Ubur-ubur" (puppy and jellyfish)

The material is the same as my previous totebag. Two sides with different animals (the puppy and jellyfish). You can take off the animals if you want to, because I made the puppy and jellyfish with a pin behind it...

So if you take it off...you can get a simple "halo" (it's indonesian...which means hello in english)...

For this one it's Rp. 80.000,-

....of course, there's a pocket inside these totebags too...

So for more info or order, you can msg me here or just email: kukywakukywa@gmail.com

Sushi time :)

It's sushi time! My cousin is here to teach me how to make sushi hehehe. Here it is...

What you need:

We used short grain rice
Smoked salmon
Crab meat
Rice vinegar
Cucumber
Sugar
Salt
Nori (Japanese seaweed)
Soy Sauce
Kikoman
Wasabi

To make sushi rice:
  • 3 cups Japanese rice
  • 3 1/4 cups water
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • 3 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt

After washing and soaking Japanese rice, (short grain rice) cook and let it steam. Prepare sushi vinegar (sushi-zu) by mixing rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a sauce pan. Put the pan on low heat and heat until the sugar dissolves. Cool the vinegar mixture. Spread the hot steamed rice into a large plate or a large bowl. Sprinkle the vinegar mixture over the rice and fold the rice with rice spatula) quickly. Be careful not to smash the rice. Allow to cool to room temperature before using the rice.

Take a sheet of nori (Japanese seaweed) and lay it down on a sushi rolling mat. Spread the sushi rice over the nori in a thin layer. Then add your fillings such as crab meat, thinly sliced smoked salmon, cucumbers.

After you have spread the rice and added the fillings, use the mat to roll it into a large sushi roll. The last step to making sushi at home is to cut the long sushi roll into 1 to 1.5 inch bite-size sushi rolls. Then serve with soy sauce for dipping or wasabi.

The result wasn't that perfect but hey, at least we tried and it taste good :p Go have a try!

For the filling:
  • 450g apples peeled, cored and cut into dices
  • 50g brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 pinch of ground cinnamon
For the crumble:
  • 300g flour, a pinch of salt
  • 175g brown sugar
  • 200g unsalted butter
  • Knob of butter for greasing

    How to make:

    1. Preheat the oven to 180C
    2. Place the flour and sugar in a large bowl and mix well. Taking a few cubes of butter at a time rub into the flour mixture. Keep rubbing until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

    3. Place the apple in a large bowl and sprinkle over the sugar, flour and cinnamon. Stir well being careful not to break up the apple.

    4. Butter a 24cm ovenproof dish. Spoon the apple mixture into the bottom, then sprinkle the crumble mixture on top.
    5. Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes until the crumble is browned and the fruit mixture bubbling.

anyway... :)

I can be optimistic, sentimental and maybe a bit worried sometimes to the point of being a bit annoying, especially to people who think that being cynical and cold is cool...and maybe for them sometimes we do stupid little things like a fool...
But still...what's wrong if we do it with love and we do it sincerely...without anything to expect in return :)

-k-

Ps: I forgot where's the pic from huhuhu sorry :p
